05-19-2007 St. Louis to Kansas City

We drove from St.Louis to Kansas City, we were there for a few minutes and Ricardo took over driving and made it to Junction City before finding a hotel for the night. So basically our first day we drove 634 miles equaling about 10 hours.

05-19-2007 St. Louis

We left my parents house and arrived in St. Louis 3-4 hours later. Shown are some St.Louis photographs, for more on The Gateway Arch check out my previous post.

I've been a Cardinals fan since the great Ozzie Smith used to do back flips on the field. It was great to finally see the new Busch Stadium up close, the guard refused to let me take 15 steps and walk in it though.

05-19-07 Roadtrip Day 1 Indiana

Rina and i picked up the rental vehicle, which was weird because i had asked for something else, but in the end this was a great vehicle to drive.
We left my house about 8:15a.m. and arrived an hour later at my mom and stepdads house in the country. Mom and Mike had woken up early to fix us a true country breakfast. It was a really nice send off and start to the road trip, but I seemed to be the only one who could function after eating. Rick and Rina wanted to go right to sleep when getting in the car.

Then we left and was on our way to St.Louis!

05-18-07 Roadtrip Start

For some reason when I started logging my road trip experiences from 2007 I started with 05-22-07 but really the trip started 05-18-07. SO I'm going to be backtracking a lot.

So 05-18-07 I picked up Rick and Rina from the Louisville airport around 1130am and brought them back to my place so we could settle in and talk about the trip. I had made itineraries for Rina and Rick but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Rick when he got his was shocked to find that I didn't make one for myself so he copied all the pages and made one for me. So sweet of him. I remember it being really weird to see Rick with a shaved head. So weird.

Here's Rick showing off his backpack.

We headed over to Rocky's Italian Grill for some lunch.and then headed over to my salon to donate 13 inches of my hair to the hair needy. It was really long, and it was really weird to have it all just cut off so quickly.

Here's Rick doing the talk to the hand bit to Rina, and Rina putting about 5 cups of sugar in her coffee.

Anyway we went over to Slugger Museum for a tour afterward, I have a lot of Slugger pics from the trip already up on my photo blog if you want to check them out.

After we left there we went to visit my bro at the starks building so we could get a roof view of louisville. It was Ricks first time in Kentucky and Rinas second time.

The strangest sticker I've ever seen on a roof access door. :D

Rina trying to stick Rick in the garbage can outside. and looking down on 4th street live.

After this my brother kidnapped us for the rest of the evening. First he drove us to Bardstown Road to get some Starbucks, then he proceeded to drive around Cherokee Park. Then he made us walk in the woods in Cherokee Park, afterwards we went to his apartment for a beer, and then broke away to get back to my place and go over the game plan for renting the vehicle the next morning.

Rick and Rina sporting the "joke buttons" I mailed them earlier in the year.

Here is Rick and Rina trying to find naked woman in apartments with their binoculars.

We were officially kidnapped by my brother from 4:15 to 7:30pm.

Roadtrip 2007 Backseat Outtake Photos

Sometimes during Roadtrip of 2007 I got shoved in the backseat. Being in the backseat is like being in prison for a photographer. I did find something to do though when i was back there. I took a backseat photo. Now i have a collection of backseat photos from the trip. I didn't really think about what I was doing at the time when I got back though I realized what cool stuff I had here. For sure next time I take a road trip and get stuck in the back seat I'm definitely going to take the pictures from the same point each time and none zoomed in so they will all look more alike except for the scenery. Here's a few of my favorites.

Camcorder

Ok so the last across country road trip i took.. not the one in 08 but the one in 2007., anyway Rina and Rick took 11 hours worth of tapes on Rinas camcorder. hilarious tapes. ok extremely hilarious tapes. Anyway rick sent it to me from florida so i could basically transfer all the tapes to my hard drive and make a movie with them. And not a 10 hour movie either. a regular 2-2.5 hour movie. It was going to be brilliant. It was going to be a dvd our friends and family would actually want to sit down and watch. So I started the transfers and on tape #3-Las Vegas everything went wrong. The tape got stuck, the camcorder pretended like it didnt have a tape in it, the tape wouldn't eject, the camcorder wouldn't open even though i was screaming at the top of my lungs at it and I couldn't pry it open either, the tape wouldnst play either.. or transfer. So Ricks been calling me atleast once a week for a good 5 months yelling at me to take the camcorder into BestBuy to have them fix it. Tonight I finally did that and they said they only work on items you buy from best buy and have the receipt for. blah. Well Ricardo is seriously going through withdrawals with wanting to see these tapes. Anyway wtf. i hate camcorders. especially old ones, using tapes that wont transfer.

So my question is. Does anyone make a device to stick the tapes into that will transfer directly onto the computer that i can buy so i can bypass this whole camcorder thing? I'm not positive but the tapes are named like 10 or something. Cant remember.

06-02-2007 Chicago Overcast Skies

We woke up in Chicago and went to Butterfield's Pancake House before heading into the city. When arriving we parked the car underground and went for a walk. We started in Millennium Park, took a stroll over to Buckingham Fountain, and then to Sky Deck in the Sears Tower. We left at 4pm to head back to Louisville to make Rick and Rina's flight that was scheduled for 6am the next morning. With a quick trip to my sisters house to hand out some presents I sat up all night trying to burn all the pictures I had taken over the last two weeks off Ricks laptop to cds. Why I waited until the very last night to do this is beyond me.
Total Trip Mileage: 6,629 miles
Left: May 18th
Came Back: June 3rd

06-01-2007 South Dakota Storm

Leaving Crazy Horse at 1:30pm our next stop would be Chicago, Illinois which was a thousand miles away and a 15 hour drive. We had meant to stop at Badlands National Park but what we really wanted to do was get ahead of the rain. The last time we had seen the sun was when we first arrived in Wyoming days ago. Rina decided to do most of the days driving after she took over from Rick driving in the morning. We hit a hell of a storm on the interstate in South Dakota. I took as many pictures as I could from inside the vehicle as Rina has this weird driving philosophy of she does not like to stop the vehicle whatsoever, or make left hand turns, which is equally as strange. When we were driving into this storm though Rina was seriously absolutely terrified. lol

Not great pictures but i really wish the side mirror had been cleaned.

When it started getting darker and darker Rina let me take over driving and Ricardo slept through the night until we reached Chicago, Rina tried to stay awake but she was passing in and out, usually waking up at gas stations. By the time I did get to the west central side of Chicago I was completely delirious. I could barely manage holding my head up, the sun had risen, it was around 7-8am and when Rick asked me a question and it took about 3 minutes for my response he took over driving. A couple more miles down the road he found a hotel and we all crashed and got to sleep about 4 hours before heading to breakfast and into downtown to see the sites.

06-01-2007 From Rushmore to Crazy Horse

06-01-2007 Mount Rushmore

After spending the night in Rapid City, South Dakota and drinking a little more than we probably should have we woke up to rain again. This is just not a great time to drive across the country. We headed on over to Mount Rushmore. It was a little smaller than i thought it would be but still it was pretty cool. Its a national symbol, its the principles of what our nation stands for. The museum is fantastic, all kinds of great stuff in there to see.
